Leading Producer of Plastic Fence Slats Sees Opportunity


Maker of PDS® products is now Pexco

ATHOL, Mass. and TACOMA, Wash. – (November 2, 2009) –North America's leading extruder of plastic fence slats today announced a new corporate identity and reported positive indications for growth. The former Filtrona Extrusion, known in the fence industry for its PDS® line of products, is now Pexco. The company's Fence Centers of Excellence are located in Athol, Mass., and Tacoma, Wash.

PDS fence products provide privacy and security and enhance the aesthetics of chain link and ornamental fences through a variety of proprietary, patented slat products. Pexco also developed the OP® Panel, which provides privacy, security and enhanced aesthetics for the ornamental fence market. These products are available through leading fence distributors in the US and Canada.

"We believe that Pexco is well-positioned to prosper as conditions improve. We have worked hard through the downturn to protect our resources – both equipment and people – and now we are ideally placed to grow as the market begins to pick up," said Pexco CEO Neil Shillingford.

Maintaining Focus on Fence

Pexco continues to pioneer new product innovation, such as a corporate branding program in which PDS fencing slats are produced in corporate colors, so new or existing chain link fence can be used to identify the location and promote the business, said Richard Brooks, VP Sales & Marketing. "Color is an integral part of many corporate branding campaigns, and PDS fencing slats are part of the mix for a growing number of familiar companies like FedEx, Harley Davidson, McDonalds and the New York Giants," Brooks said.

According to Shillingford, Pexco will maintain its focus on fence products and other core markets. "We have succeeded – and will continue to succeed – because of our in-depth understanding of the markets in which our customers operate. This gives us the ability to design, manufacture and deliver large or small volumes to their exacting standards and to make positive contributions to their supply chain management," he said.

New Corporate Identity

Pexco, which has been the brand name of the company's medical tubing products, chose its new name to emphasize a unified approach across multiple markets and production sites. "The new Pexco identity focuses on creatively working with customers to help solve their challenges – from highly technical engineering solutions to taking advantage of our manufacturing capability across seven plants in North America," said Shillingford.
